Beginner Lesson
For a first time beginner lesson you and your instructor will go over the following:
Familiarizing you with the Equipment and Terminology
We will go over all of the equipment that is involved with kiteboarding, talk about what it is used for, how to use it, and the terminology of what it’s called.
How to Setup your Equipment
We will show you how to setup the equipment properly so you will have a fun and safe kiteboarding experience.
Safety Systems
We will go over in detail about the Safety Systems, what kind of situations you might need to use them in, and how to activate them.
Launching and landing your kite from land
Most accidents happen on land so it is very important to learn how to safely launch and land your kite. We will explain that, demonstrate it, and work closely with you to you get you launching and landing skills down.
Re-launching the kite off the water
We will talk about different positions the kite can get into when it crashes and how to re-launch it off the water.
Wind Window and different Power Strokes
We will explain what is the wind window, neutral zone, power zone, and use clock positions to describe how to fly the kite and complete different power strokes
Body Dragging
We will get you out in the water doing what we call a body drag to practice how to fly the kite, different power strokes, and preparing you for the board stage.
Advance Beginner Lesson
For a second time or more advance beginner lesson you and your instructor will go over the following:
Reviewing your Equipment and Terminology
We will review all of the equipment that is involved with kiteboarding, talk about what it is used for, how to use it, and the terminology of what it’s called.
Testing you on How to Setup your Equipment
We will test you on setting up your equipment and work with you to make sure it is correct.
Reviewing Safety System
We will review the details about the Safety Systems, what kind of situations you might need to use them in, and how to activate them.
Practice Launching and Landing
We will have you practice launching and landing so you can safely get on and off the beach.
Practice Re-launching the kite off the water
We will have you practice re-launching the kite off the water after crashing
Water Starting
We will cover the details of how to water start using the power strokes, what body position to be in, and the direction your board should be facing. We will practice this on land first with a simulator and then work on it out in the water.
Board Skills
We will go over how to ride on top of the board, control and turn the board, learn how to start edging, and work towards going up wind.
Intermediate Lesson
For an Intermediate Lesson you and your instructor will go over the following:
Tips on Staying up Wind
Talk about staying up wind, the best way to use your board to do this, and how to read the wind on the water.
Introduction to Jumping
Talk about the different ways to jump in kiteboarding and what makes a great jump.
How to Jump with the Board
Learn how to carve and create Load and Pop using your board.
How to Jump using the Kite
Learn how to send your kite to lift you off the water and into the air.
Combine Jumping with your Board and Kite
Learn the timing of how to jump using your kite and board maximizing your height and hang time.
Advance Lesson with Mark Doyle
For an Advance Lesson with Mark Doyle you will pick 4 tricks of your desire and go over the following:
How to do the Trick
Talk about how to start the trick, what to do in the air, and how to land smoothly.
Use Computer & Sequence Photos
Mark uses sequence photos to visually show you the trick while he is explaining it.
Use Kite Model
Mark uses a Kite Model and Wind Window to show you what to do with your kite and where it should be at in the sky.
Demonstrate
Mark will demonstrate the trick as the last visual so you can see how its done in person.
Ride with you and Work on Tricks
Mark will ride on the water side by side with you and analyze each try to help give you tips and corrections so you can complete your maneuver.
Wave Lesson
In a wave lesson you and your instructor will cover the following and do a 5 mile down winder:
Comfort in the Waves
Talk about how to duck dive waves with the kite, how to recover the board after crashing, and what to do when the kite goes down in the surf.
Carving
Talk about how to carve your board and what to do with your body to make this happen. Go over different types of turns (snap turns, carve turns, slide turns)
Kite Placement and Timing it with the Waves
Talk about where the kite should be and when and where to maneuver while surfing the wave.
On Shore Wind - Side Shore Wind - Off Shore Wind
Talk about the different wind directions that can be found in the surf and how it affects your kite surfing on the waves.
Supervised Rental
A Supervised Rental is only for those who are at the Advance Beginner level and working on staying up wind. You must be self sufficient and it includes the equipment, help rigging, launching, and a jet ski pickup after finishing your section.
