I have just finished my first month managing the new and biggest Kiteboarding shop XL Kites in South Padre Island. It has been quite an experience and I am learning a lot very quickly.

My good friend Andy Asher from Canada who has taken Advanced Lesson from me in Brazil and California has shown up with 5 of his friends. They are here for 2 weeks and I will be working with them on new freestyle tricks, unhooked maneuvers, and wave riding.

I recently went in for an MRI on my knee and in a few days find out if I need surgery or not. They say my knee is a little loose when I twisted it and probably tore my meniscus and stretched the ligaments. It’s not too bad, the surgery and recovery is quick.

Still in South Padre Island, Waiting for Spring

The winter has not been bad here and we have had many days with waves and wind. There has been a few cold fronts, but if you have a good wetsuite and a passion for waves then you would be out there kiting.

Besides downers in the waves I have spent a lot of my time helping Mike Perse setup his new XL Kite shop that is about to open in SPI this spring. I have also spent the winter putting things together for my new website that my good friends at Avasa Web Design created.

South Padre Island, The Ultimate Kiteboarding Paradise

During the spring of 2008 I will be teaching in South Padre Island, Texas and working with XL Kites to open a new shop. The Island is a great place to Kiteboard. It offers beautiful flat water for freestyle on the bay side and nice waves for surf kiting on the gulf side.

Japan to Texas via California

November, 2007

I have recently spent two weeks in Japan teaching my advanced lessons. I hit over 9 different locations and meet a lot of new kiteboarders. Once I got back to San Francisco my wife, Mara and I packed our Toyota and headed out for a long trip to South Padre Island, Texas.

We traveled for 3 days and over 2000 miles to another place I like to call home. I will be working here with XL Kites, South Padre Island. I will be working in the shop and teaching beginner to advanced lessons.

SPI is a great place to kiteboard and offers nice flat water for learning new freestyle maneuvers or awesome down winder in the waves. The flat water kiting is only one meter deep and has great potential for kickers and sliders.

The waves are typically head high. We usually head down wind for five miles and end up at the Wanna Wanna Bar for cocktails, munchies, and a quick taxi ride to do it all over again.

I will be here through the winter and spring season and pretty much making SPI my home base. I will traveling from here out to other locations and then back home again.
